International Day for Universal Access to Information Marked in Kabul

Kabul (BNA) International Day Universal Access to Information was marked by the Commission for Access to Information yesterday in Kabul, BNA reported. In a ceremony held on this occasion with participation of deputy minister of publication affairs for information and culture Fazil Sancharaki, a number of government officials, representatives of government and private media organizations and foreign guests, head of the commission for access to information Ainuddin Bahaduri briefed related to works and activities of the commission and asserted that for the first time the law on access to information was ratified by the country’s President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani. Afterwards, deputy minister of publication affairs for information and culture Fazil Sancharaki spoke and by congratulating the International Day for Universal Access to Information to journalists and media officials said very significant steps have been taken in the past five years in connection with paving the way for having access to information, defending the rights of journalists, addressing violence cases and paving all necessary ways for interpretation of access to information. Late on, UNAMA deputy spoke related to access to information, saying that access to information is a human right providing facility for transparency and democracy.
