India’s Cooperation Vital For Afghanistan, Usmani

Kabul (BNA) The Indian Foreign Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj, met with her Afghan counterpart Zarar Ahmad Usmani here in Kabul on Wednesday. BNA reported.
The Indian FM is in Kabul to inaugurate the new building for India Embassy to Kabul. Afghan Foreign Minister pointed out to India’s long-term relation with Afghanistan, and termed India’s cultural, economic, development and security cooperation as important and vital for Afghanistan.
Usmani also pointed out to construction of Salma Dam Power Project, the building of parliament house, power transition to Afghanistan, providing scholarships to Afghan youth, establishing of Mines National Institute and Kandahar Agriculture University as well as training of Afghan security forces, and said: “India with having close ties with Afghanistan and its honest cooperation with the country during past 13 years has special place among Afghan people and the Afghan government.”
He said after signing the strategic partnership with New Delhi, relations of Afghanistan with India has entered a new phase which can help both the countries for improving and expanding economic, political, and cultural and security cooperation for future of both the countries.
He hoped that Afghanistan-India ties develop further and this close relationship provide people of both the countries with peace and prosperity.
Thanking the warm welcome of Afghan President Hamid Karzai and the Afghan Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Indian FM termed cooperation of her country with Afghanistan and Afghan people as main responsibilities of her countries. “Stability and development in Afghanistan have great importance for India and Indians,” she said.
Indian FM assured that India would continue its cooperation with Afghanistan in all fields. She pointed out to Afghan presidential election and said: “both the candidates were our good friends and we will support the new president of Afghanistan.”
The Afghan and Indian foreign ministers termed terrorism as biggest threat for the region’s security, and stressed on joint cooperation in eliminating this evil phenomenon.
