Pilot Phase of Electronic ID Cards Distribution To Begin: President Ghani

Kabul (BNA) A meeting chaired by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani discussed various aspects of electronic-ID card distribution.
President Ghani termed the pilot phase of e-ID distribution as a good opportunity to identify the technical problems of this national process, and stressed that the process should begin.
Homayon Mohtat, the Head of e-ID cards Department briefed the President on the preparations for distribution of e-ID, and said that the pilot phase is designed to begin at 8 registration centers and 24 ministries in Kabul city.
Mr. Mohtat assured President Ghani that the problems in e-ID cards Department have been addressed and that the required capacity for running the project is now in place. The issue of independence of e-ID Department was also discussed in the meeting. About the start of the pilot phase on 28 Assad 1394 (19 August 15) that coincides with Afghanistan’s Independence Day, President Ghani said that the entire focus on this day would be on commending and decorating the national defense and security forces. The meeting urged that since the e-ID cards distribution is a national process, there should be a separate date for the national process and that would in the coming days to be marked with a magnificent ceremony with participation of political and influential figures and national elders. The meeting was attended by the Minister of Interior Noor-ul-haq Uloomi, Minister of Communication and Information Technology Abdul Razaq Wahidi and the Presidential Special Representative Dr. Akram Khpelwak.
