Minister Zuhair Vows to Use All Legal, Diplomatic Means for Journalists’ Advocacy

Kabul (BNA)  A number of media activists, in a meeting with the Acting Minister of Information and Culture Mohammad Tahir Zuhair, the other day, expressed concern over growing targeted attacks against journalists and media activists and said supporting journalists and media was of the duties and goals of the ministry.

They also asked for lodging discussion of prevention of targeted and chain murders of journalists in the peace negotiations like the issue of ceasefire, the agency said. The visiting media activists asked for creation of a coordination center between the Ministry of Information and Culture and media institutions to address their problems, according to the agency.

Meanwhile, Abdul Manan Shiway Sharq the deputy publication to the ministry spoke in details about the proposals offered and proposed programs and said the ministry has taken effective steps in this field that would be shared with the media society of the country.

Meantime, the country’s Acting Minister of Information and Culture Mohammad Tahir Zuhair said his led ministry would use any legal, diplomatic and international means for journalists’ advocacy, the agency quoted. “Our mind was focused in the current situation and challenges facing by journalists in the country,” said the acting minister.

“We would hold a meeting in this field with the related in charges of the international institutions, diplomats, media and journalists supporting entities,” said the acting minister as quoted by the agency.

He said the Ministry of Information and Culture depended on the support and power of media and the more honorable the ministry was, the more dignified the country’s media will be.
