MoI Assures Security of Elections

Tuesday, October 16, 2018

Kabul (BNA) Based on MoI statement, deployment of over 50000 ANSF majority of them ANP, has been started to all provinces who are expected to provide security of polling stations on Election Day.  Addressing the media, MoI spokesman Najeeb Danesh touching the 19 rural districts with highest threat level said, in case of need further reinforcements will be sent to these areas.
The Taliban insurgents recently called the elections as plot and conspiracy of foreigners and said that its result would be taking power by individuals dependent to foreigners, who would represent the people.  Taliban have warned that they would target the election guardians.  This issue has instigated concerns, because the Taliban warning jeopardize citizens.  IEC employees and ANSF and would strongly disappoint the voters who want to attend the polling stations, use their vote and support there would be lawmakers.
The election process was threatened since the beginning as according to media reports, the election process was attacked over 38 times and as result over 471 people most of them civilians were victimized.  Out of which 158 people including 9 candidates martyred and over 313 civilians injured.  The last terrorist attack targeted a election campaign rally in Takhar province on Saturday in which 15 people killed and 35 civilians injured.  Another terror attack in Herat.  Killed 2 people and injured two.
Therefore it requires ANSA to provide reliable security of election process, because in lack of reliable security, civilians’ participation and presence would be fading in polling stations and a small number of voters would accept the risk to attend polling.  The outcome of fading partnership of citizens would be low rate of parliament legitimacy which is expected to appear as a third branch of government according to constitution.  So the MoI statement was in fact a response to an urgent and vital need and an assurance to citizens that they can attend polling stations with peace of mind.
It seems that MoI and its partners would not spare any efforts before and on Election Day to provide security for people.
Addressing the media the other days.  Spokesman of ANSF and RS assured the people that ensuring reliable security of election process would be at the top of their priorities.
