Severe Floods in Baghlan Devastate 300 Water Sources, Prompting Urgent Restoration Efforts

KABUL(BNA): In a devastating blow to the region, the recent floods in Baghlan have completely or partially destroyed approximately 300 water sources in the province.

Engineer Wasim Rashidi, Head of Engineering Services at the Department of Rural Development, informed BNA that recent floods have caused significant damage in the province, including the destruction of around 300 water sources and 14 water supply networks. Nearly 70% of the water sources in Burka and Central Baghlan districts have been destroyed.

Rashidi reported that efforts are underway to restore the water sources. All affected networks have been surveyed and handed over to donors for reconstruction, with practical work set to begin once funding is secured.

Meanwhile, Arbab Kazem, a resident of Dehane Larkhab in the Doshi district, who lost all his possessions in the floods, highlighted the lack of drinking water as a major challenge. He urged the government and aid organizations to prioritize rebuilding the water networks.
