Wednesday, August 12, 2020
Kabul (BNA) A statement from the Presidential Palace said yesterday that President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani held meeting with members of the peace negotiating team.
Peace negotiating team’s head Masoum Stanekzai and a number of other members talked about their contacts with the Taliban peace delegation. Stanekzai said they will consider suggestions of the Peace Consultative Loya Jirga and into account people’s demands while negotiating with the Taliban peace delegation under the framework of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
President Ghani said the Peace Consultative Loya Jirga was a political power seen by the world which staunchly supported the Afghan nation and it was a huge asset for them. President Ghani added the Consultative Peace Loya Jirga set up a peace plan for the Afghan government and it must be realized.
“We are committed to peace and we have made practical efforts and taken measures. Our goal is to bring the ongoing conflict to an end fundamentally,” President Ghani said.
He said the Afghan peace negotiation team would talk with the Taliban peace delegation for lasting and honorable peace in the country.
He said after he signed the decree to release 400 Taliban prisoners, the people now see no obstacle to the start of intra-Afghan talks and urge an immediate conduct of the talks. Some sources said the Afghan peace negotiation team would leave for Qatar this upcoming Thursday to start talks with the Taliban.
