Justice Should Be Ensured For Women Rights: First Lady

Kabul (BNA) Afghanistan’s first lady Bibi Gul Ghani has called for ensuring justice to women languishing in prison.
In her message readout at the conference on “Ensuring Justice to Women rights” here yesterday, the first lady said that prisoned women should not be forgotten.
The law should be implemented on jailed women, the first lady said in her message.
Besides thanking Paiwand-e-Afghanistan entity for organizing the conference, she also added that the ground for education of children who live with their mothers in prison should be facilitated.
Civil society activist, Suraya Parlika also spoke at the conference and highlighted the challenges and shortage that women are faced in jails.
Speaking at the conference, chairperson of Paiwand-e-Afghanistan entity said that investigation into the condition of jailed women in Herat, Kabul, Kandahar and Balkh has indicated that major number of women detainees do not know about their rights, they do not have defense lawyer and their children have no proper kindergarten.
Participants including defense lawyers and prosecutors at the conference exchanged views on the punishment system, women awareness on their rights and reducing the damages to families in the three-day conference which lasts for another two days.
