KABUL(BNA): The Ministry of Urban Development and Housing has announced plans for the construction of a new city for Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar province.
According to a press release from the ministry, Mawlawi Mohammad Nabi Saeedi, Head of Urban Development in Nangarhar, met with Sheikh Hamdullah Nomani, the Acting Minister of Urban Development and Housing, to discuss the project. Saeedi described Jalalabad as a transit and communication hub with a small area but a rapidly growing population.
The new city is planned to cover 44,000 acres of land, located east of Jalalabad. So far, topographical surveys have been completed on 8,000 acres of this land. However, the project has faced delays due to issues with land transfer. Once the land is officially transferred, initial steps for the city’s construction will begin.
The Acting Minister emphasized that the ministry is committed to the orderly development of cities across various provinces. Efforts are already underway to enhance urban infrastructure and provide adequate housing.
This new city project is part of a broader initiative to accommodate the growing population and improve living conditions in urban areas. The ministry aims to create well-planned urban spaces that can support economic growth and improve the quality of life for residents.
