UNAMA Pledges Support for Public Welfare Programs in Afghanistan

KANDAHAR(BNA): Mullah Mohammad Sadiq Inqilabi, the Deputy Governor of Kandahar, discussed the implementation of public welfare and development projects in the province with Georgette Gagnon, Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).
According to the Bakhtar News Agency, Gagnon stated that her visit to Kandahar aims to monitor ongoing and completed UN-related public welfare projects in the region. She added that the fundamental needs of the local population will be incorporated into the UN’s 2025 agenda. Additionally, she emphasized the organization’s commitment to effectively implementing alternative livelihood programs to replace poppy cultivation in the upcoming year.
The Deputy Governor of Kandahar thanked the UN and its affiliated institutions for their efforts, particularly regarding alternative crop initiatives. He urged further UN support in constructing small water dams, cold storage facilities, roads, and pathways, as well as creating employment opportunities to reduce unemployment in the region.
