UN Special Envoy Highlights Development Potential in Panjshir

 

PANJSHIR(BNA): In a meeting with Hafiz Mohammad Agha Hakim, the Governor of Panjshir, Ms. Roza Otunbayeva, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy, emphasized the international community’s interest in the region’s natural resources and development opportunities.

During her visit, Otunbayeva praised Panjshir as an ideal location for various development projects and expressed the UN’s readiness to assist in areas such as health, education, agriculture, environment, and technical mining extraction. She noted the positive human rights situation, security, and peaceful atmosphere in the province, which she believes are conducive to project implementation.

Governor Hakim welcomed the UN Envoy’s visit and advocated for the involvement of leading international organizations and donors to support infrastructure development in Panjshir. He highlighted the significant improvements in security under the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, stating that drug cultivation and trafficking have been eradicated in the province.

Additionally, the Governor addressed the critical issue of inadequate healthcare services, identifying the provincial hospital’s shortcomings as a major challenge. Otunbayeva acknowledged these concerns and reiterated her commitment to resolving the issues facing the province.
