KABUL(BNA) – Khalil-ur-Rahman Haqqani, the Acting Minister of Refugees and Repatriations, held a significant meeting with Mr. Arafat Jamal, the newly appointed head of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Afghanistan, to discuss enhanced strategies for addressing refugee issues in the country.
During the meeting, Mawlawi Haqqani expressed his optimism that Jamal’s leadership would bring effective solutions to the challenges faced by refugees in Afghanistan. He underscored the importance of humanitarian-driven assistance, given the inherently humanitarian nature of refugee issues.
Mawlawi Haqqani outlined the Ministry’s comprehensive five-year strategic plan, which covers all aspects of return, reintegration, and permanent settlement. He called for close cooperation from relevant organizations to ensure the successful implementation of this plan.
The Acting Minister also emphasized that aid should be provided in exchange for work, advocating for the control of administrative expenses by organizations and a greater focus on addressing the needs of the vulnerable population.
In response, Arafat Jamal highlighted his priorities, including enhancing coordination with the Ministry, developing effective joint practices, and working closely to address refugee issues.
He further stressed the need for increased coordination with host countries, simplifying the return process, and implementing health, education, and other essential programs to find permanent solutions for refugees.
