Panjshir Emerald Generate Over $587,000 in Revenue in Two Years

BAZARAK (BNA): The Department of Mines and Petroleum in Panjshir province has deposited $587,510 into the government treasury over the past two years from 10% royalties on the sale of 89,797 carats of emeralds.

According to BNA, Mawlawi Mohammad Qasim Amiri, the head of the Panjshir Mines and Petroleum Department, stated that 35 emerald auction sessions were held during this period, resulting in the sale of emeralds and other precious stones worth $5,875,103 to domestic and international traders.

Amiri explained that these emeralds were extracted from 450 mines, and surveys for 45 additional mines in the districts of Paryan and Dara have recently been completed. He emphasized that thousands of workers are benefiting from employment opportunities in these mines and confirmed that the extraction of gold, silver, ruby, and iron mines in Panjshir is proceeding normally.
