Over 300,000 Afghan Migrants Return from Pakistan Amid Support Initiatives

KANDAHAR(BNA): More than 300,000 Afghan migrants have returned to their home country from Pakistan over the past nine months.

According to Mufti Nematullah Alfat, an official at the Refugees and Repatriation Department in Kandahar, a total of 58,663 families, comprising 309,301 individuals, have made the journey back through the Spin Boldak district.

To support these returning families, the Islamic Emirate has provided each family with 10,000 Afghanis, along with essential supplies including food, medicine, vaccinations, and basic living facilities at the Anzargi camp in the Takht-e-Pol district. Furthermore, families have been referred to partner aid organizations for additional assistance.

Most of the returnees hail from provinces such as Kandahar, Helmand, Uruzgan, Zabul, and Farah. The Islamic Emirate has also facilitated transportation costs for families, taking into account their specific needs and distances to their respective provinces.

In a noteworthy initiative, a township for returning migrants is currently being developed in the Daman district of Kandahar, covering an area of 6,000 jeribs. The first phase of this project includes the design of 792 plots on 1,500 jeribs of land, with over 250 families already receiving plots.

Moreover, small businesses have been established in the Shorandam Industrial Park to support skilled individuals. Training programs for farmers and short-term vocational training centers, including tailoring, have also been introduced, connecting individuals to employment opportunities in local factories.

In addition, partner organizations in Kandahar have provided financial assistance to affected migrant families, including 38,000 Afghanis to each of 130 families, 880 dollars to 802 families, and 11,500 Afghanis for the rent of 309 houses. Educational opportunities and healthcare facilities have also been made available for the children of returning families.

The efforts to assist returning migrants reflect a broader commitment to rebuilding the lives of those displaced and fostering stability in the region.
