One Billion Afs Expense Annually on Drug Addicts Treatment, Says Interior Ministry

KABUL(BNA): The Spokesman Mufti Abdul Mateen Qane for the Ministry of Interior Affairs announced that approximately one billion Afghanis are allocated annually for the treatment of drug addicts in the country.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to combat the drug crisis, which claims countless lives globally each year.
After establishments of the Islamic Emirate, the leadership issued a decree aimed at eradicating the cultivation, production, smuggling, sale, and use of drugs.
Mufti Qane reported that the program for collecting, treating, and accommodating drug addicts has seen remarkable success, with hundreds of thousands receiving assistance and many finding employment post-treatment.
As of now, 36,114 drug addicts have completed treatment and been reunited with their families. Thousands more are still undergoing rehabilitation, with job opportunities being created for many of them. The spokesman emphasized that drug dealers will face severe penalties, including up to ten years in prison.
Citizens have expressed appreciation for the Ministry’s actions. Reza Hussani, a street vendor at Timurshahi Bridge, noted the dramatic improvement in the area, stating that authorities have successfully removed numerous young drug users from the streets and placed them in treatment centers.
Similarly, Ahmad Seriki, a visitor to Pul Sukhta, praised the transformation of the area from a hub of drug trafficking to a cultural space, attributing this change to the efforts of the Islamic Emirate.
Historically, previous administrations failed to adequately address the needs of drug addiction victims. However, the current leadership’s commitment to combating this crisis, along with the counter-narcotics police’s diligent work, has reportedly led to a significant reduction in drug cultivation, production, and trafficking in the country.
