KABUL(BNA): As part of the program highlighting the achievements of various Emirati (governmental) institutions over the past year, officials from the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing presented their key activities, accomplishments, and future plans during a press briefing.
Sheikh Hamdullah Nomani, Acting Minister of Urban Development and Housing, announced that the ministry has established 46 prepared townships in 29 provinces for returning citizens. Additionally, land has been identified and surveyed in Bamiyan, Panjshir, Khost, and Ghazni provinces.
He added that, in the past year, the ministry developed, designed, and approved 57 urban plans. These include master plans for Khost and Pul-e-Alam cities, standard plans for Lashkar Gah, Ghazni, Maidan Shahr, and Asadabad cities, and detailed plans for Upper Sholgara, Lower Sholgara, Upper Maywand, and Ghorak districts.
Minister Nomani mentioned that the ministry also initiated five key housing and construction projects nationwide. Notably, 25% of the construction for the Neelabagh township in Kabul’s Darulaman area has been completed, with the remaining work expected to finish in the next 38 months.
Additionally, a residential township in Kandahar was delivered, construction for a housing project for 500 families in Helmand is ongoing, and a survey for residential needs for 20,000 families in Nangarhar has been conducted.
To alleviate traffic congestion in Kabul, he stated that the ministry is planning the construction of terminals for cargo trucks in Char Asiab, Khaki Jabbar, Estalif, and Arghandi. The Ministry of Transport is working on land transfer, planning, design, and construction.
According to Sheikh Hamdullah Nomani, Over the past year, the ministry identified 3,181 urban violations and monitored 443 construction projects across the country.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Madar Ali Karimi Bamiani, Deputy Minister for Urban Affairs, provided updates on urban planning initiatives. He mentioned that topographical surveys for 56 areas have been completed, sketches and layouts for 315 areas have been prepared, and estimates for 99 development projects have been made.
For the current fiscal year (1403), the ministry plans to survey, plan, and implement 28 townships in 16 provinces, design 12 detailed plans for residential areas in Kabul and other provinces, conduct technical, economic, and social studies for housing land, restore and preserve ancient cities and historical monuments.
