KABUL(BNA): In the second round of Iran’s presidential elections held yesterday, Masoud Pezeshkian was elected as the ninth president of the country, securing 49.8% of the votes.
A total of over 30 million votes were cast in this round, with Pezeshkian receiving over 16 million votes and his opponent, Saeed Jalili, securing over 13 million votes.
The new president, Masoud Pezeshkian, was born in West Azerbaijan, Iran, and has a background in both politics and medicine. He has served as a soldier in the Iranian army and worked as a doctor during the Iran-Iraq war, assisting Iranian soldiers.
President Pezeshkian has pledged to dedicate himself fully to serving Iran and working towards improving the lives of its citizens.
