Iranian Delegation Meets Herat Governor to Boost Rail Transport

KABUL(BNA): A delegation from Iran Railways, led by the Deputy for Commercial and Operations Affairs, held a meeting with Sheikh Mawlana Noor Ahmad Islamjar, the governor of Herat, to discuss the enhancement of rail transport between Iran and Afghanistan.

According to reports from Bakhtar News Agency, the discussions centered on several key initiatives aimed at accelerating rail transportation. Topics included addressing challenges related to the Khaf-Herat railway line, formalizing the Herat-Istanbul international transport corridor, facilitating fuel transportation, smoothing visa issuance for train operators, and initiating Herat-Tehran flights.

Governor Islamjar expressed support for the expansion of rail transport and emphasized the necessity for the Iranian delegation to tackle the ongoing issues with the railway system. He assured the delegation of the local administration’s full cooperation in expediting efforts to complete the Khaf-Herat railway project.

The meeting comes at a time when Herat’s local administration has ramped up efforts to accelerate the construction of the Khaf-Herat railway. Notably, in the past week alone, four trains carrying concrete components for the project have arrived from Iran at the Rozanak station in Herat province.
