HTS Delisting Under U.S. Consideration Following Regime Collapse in Syria

KABUL(BNA): The Washington Post has reported, citing a senior U.S. official, that the United States may consider removing Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) from its list of designated terrorist organizations and initiating formal engagement with the group. HTS has played a significant role in opposing the regime of Bashar al-Assad in Syria.

On Sunday, HTS reportedly took full control of the Syrian government. Meanwhile, former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, accused of widespread civilian atrocities, has fled to Moscow on a special flight.

The United States had designated HTS as a terrorist organization in 2018, but recent developments suggest Washington might reassess its stance, potentially paving the way for formal interactions with the group.
