KABUL(BNA): Yemeni Houthi militants have claimed responsibility for downing a U.S. MQ-9 Reaper drone, valued at millions of dollars, while it was operating in airspace controlled by the Houthis on Sunday.
While the United States has not yet officially responded to the Houthis’ claim, it recently announced joint military operations with the United Kingdom targeting Houthi forces in Yemen. The recent spike in hostilities comes in the wake of U.S. and Western nations’ support for Israel’s actions against Palestinian civilians, which has fueled tensions in the region.
Since the outbreak of the current conflict in Gaza, exchanges of missile strikes, drone attacks, and aerial bombardments between the warring sides have become more frequent, causing substantial destruction and losses.
