FM Mawlawi Muttaqi Urges India to Ease Visa Process for Afghan Nationals
KABUL (BNA): The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, met with J.P. Singh, Deputy Secretary for PAI Affairs at India’s Ministry of External Affairs, in his office to discuss avenues for strengthening political and economic relations between Afghanistan and India, as well as facilitating people-to-people interactions.
In an official statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that both sides engaged in discussions on expanding bilateral relations, with a focus on political and economic cooperation.
During the meeting, Foreign Minister Mawlawi Muttaqi expressed hope for further progress in the relationship between the two nations across various sectors. He emphasized the need for India to simplify visa processes for Afghan citizens, especially businesspeople, to enhance trade relations.
Mawlawi Muttaqi also conveyed gratitude for India’s ongoing humanitarian assistance and described India’s development commitments as promising. According to the Ministry’s statement, J.P. Singh affirmed India’s commitment to its relationship with Afghanistan, noting the historical ties that bind both nations.
He highlighted that India has not only provided humanitarian aid but has also initiated development assistance and is engaged in technical discussions with relevant Afghan entities.
Mr. Singh underscored the importance of expanding ties between Afghanistan and India, revealing plans for upcoming technical discussions on the Chabahar Port involving regional countries, Afghanistan, and India. He further assured that India would enhance visa facilitation for Afghan nationals.
It is noteworthy that Mr. Singh previously met with the Acting Minister of National Defense, Mawlawi Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, as part of his visit.
