Deputy PM Mawlavi Hanafi Discusses Climate Change Efforts with IFRC

KABUL(BNA): Mawlavi Abdul Salam Hanafi, Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs, met with Alexander Mathieu, the Head of the Asia-Pacific Region of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), along with his delegation, to discuss ongoing humanitarian and climate change efforts in the country.

During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Hanafi emphasized the severe impact of climate change and natural disasters, including earthquakes and floods, in Afghanistan. He noted that these challenges have led to hardships, with many Afghans facing displacement and poverty.

Alexander Mathieu provided details into the IFRC’s initiatives, highlighting their support for victims of natural disasters, job creation for impoverished families, vaccination programs, and heart surgery operations for children, all facilitated through the Afghan Red Crescent Society across various provinces.

Deputy Prime Minister Hanafi praised the federation’s efforts and urged continued assistance for both the Afghan populace and returning migrants, recognizing the urgency of humanitarian aid in the face of ongoing challenges.
