Deputy Minister of Public Works Attends 81st Meeting of CIS Rail Transport Council

 

KABUL (BNA): Mawlawi Mohammad Ishaq Sahibzada, Deputy Minister for Railways at the Ministry of Public Works, participated in the 81st session of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Rail Transport Council, held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

According to the Ministry’s Media Office, discussions centered on fostering international cooperation in Afghanistan’s rail sector and promoting fundamental advancements in rail infrastructure and technology. The meeting aimed to attract international support and collaboration to enhance Afghanistan’s rail transport capabilities.

On the sidelines of the conference, Deputy Minister Sahibzada held separate meetings with railway officials from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. These discussions focused on implementing joint railway projects and increasing the volume of trade and goods transit through expanded rail networks in the region.

The Rail Transport Council, established in 1992, is an international organization dedicated to promoting cooperation and coordination among its member states in the field of rail transport. Afghanistan recently achieved observer status within the council, marking a step towards deeper involvement in regional railway initiatives.
