Acting Refugees Minister and UNHCR Representative Discuss Refugees Crisis Solutions

KABUL(BNA): Acting Refugees and Repatriation Minister, Mawlavi Abdul Kabir, recently met with Raouf Mazou, the representative United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), alongside his delegation.

The meeting focused on the pressing issues surrounding Afghan refugees and the need for sustainable solutions to the ongoing refugee crisis.

In a press release issued by the ministry, the discussions emphasized the importance of providing adequate facilities for refugee settlements and the potential for trilateral and quadrilateral meetings with neighboring countries, specifically Pakistan and Iran, to collaboratively address the challenges faced by Afghan refugees.

Mazou expressed concern over the forced deportation of Afghan refugees from Pakistan and Iran, labeling it a violation of international principles. He reaffirmed the UNHCR’s commitment to assist in establishing permanent settlements for refugees, despite the ongoing global financial crisis that has hindered their operations.

Acting Minister, Mawlavi Abdul Kabir acknowledged the vital role of international partners and aid agencies in addressing the needs of Afghan refugees. He stated that Ministry of Refugees is dedicated to ensuring that returned refugees and internally displaced persons receive the necessary support in a transparent manner.
